The Song of Wind-Blown Paper

by James Morehead

Blown along the street
carried, bumped,
floating on the wind.

A gust works up,
sends the paper
sputtering
across the street.

Lazy and carefree,
it drifts
to the sidewalk
below.

Trodden
down by feed
of people too hurried
to notice it.

Then blown again
with the shifting currents
of wind.
