portraits of red and grey #7

by James Morehead

a suspensionless bus
will not let me forget
last night's blinding nauseating sickness

moscow passes blurred
famous churches statues buildings museums
                                                                         ( i can't remember )
until the shades of grey reveal

red square

i walk on stones rich in history
my breath sucked out in open space
                                                          ( walls distant
                                                             enclosing
                                                             silent )

a t.v. image explodes before me
                                                    peter jennings
                                                    live
                                                    red square
                                                    moscow

i cannot see i cannot hear the parades of missiles
or cries of revolution
but i feel them beneath my feet
