A Place to Hide

by James Morehead

light from upstairs
the third floor closet
door open
small hole hatchway leading out
climb up on a wobbling chair
as paint chips catching
                                     cut

darkness flows down
an invisible wind
beating
in time
inside

standing now
an open space
no more darkness
no more wind
i can breathe
i can see
a place to hide
