Desert Snow by James Morehead

Desert Snow

by James Morehead

consider a desert snow
would it mask the noonday sun

would quiet feathers reach the ground
from frozen clouds
high over white-capped moutains
stretched across white waves of sand

would northern visitors be disappointed
with pina colada and tennis shoes
and club med tour bags
covering their faces
and snow wet hair
with bermuda beach towels
what of an muslim prayer
on grass mats
                       in cool darkness

will school be canceled in a distant land
will small children watch
and wait
for father in the driveway

a parched traveler
would he notice melting crystals
cool to touch a tease of water
as he dreams of moutain streams
