ricochets
by James Morehead
sometimes
between time
sleeping children dream and
rain creeps in
a slow percussive blend
of ricochets
carelessly dangling over tiles
into troughs
and coupled spouts
down slick pools gathering in moonlit pavement
pulling
catching
a discarded note
its forgotten message stained into swirling texture
streams drink more streams
confident joining
with runoffs swift
(soon raging)
toward pacific’s bay and moon pulled tides
